Cathay Pacific Carry On Luggage Weight?

I am going to Hong Kong from Melbourne in September and am wondering about the carry on luggage weight. I intend to take a bag on with me which is the right measurements but with my stuff in it it weighs around 8 KG. The rule on the website says 7 KG max but it also says that you may also carry a laptop seperately for free. My laptop includes that weight so does that count or will i have to carry it in a 2nd bag?
Any info would help.
I am assuming that they are quite strict about things like this but correct me if i am wrong.

Any airline I have been on, even the puddle jumpers, say you can have 2 carry ons. They usually break it down like “a small duffle bag and a brief case” so I do just that. Divide your things into 2 bags (so what you said about the laptop) and add a couple items from the first bag into the laptop bag. That should even out the weight, though I have never heard anything strict about carry on weight… have a nice trip
