International Luggage? Help!?

I am going to the Philippines this year and is in search of a luggage set. I don’t know what kind to get because people say your luggage will rip and get damaged if you are going international. Can you please tell me what kind of material is best for a luggage? Also are there any tips you can give me while flying to the Philippines or while I’m in the Philippines. Thanks so much!!
